Les formes de résistance de la religion aymara

La résistance des Aymaras a pris diverses formes. D'abord malgré la lutte sanglante contre la sorcellerie, les Aymaras ont continué de pratiquer leur religion et ses rites. Ceux-ci se sont fait discrets, de collectifs ils sont devenus, familiaux. Les rites de carnaval par exemple sont aujourd'hui essentiellement des rites familiaux, mais pratiqués par l'ensemble de la population. L'Eglise officielle considère cela comme du folklore, ce qui évite bien de se poser de vraies questions.
La {Pachamama} (terre-mère) est au centre des croyances du peuple aymara. Il y a une dépendance filiale à la terre. Sans la terre, l'Aymara est un paria errant et le peuple, un peuple d'esclaves. C'est elle qui donne la vie. C'est pourquoi la Pachamama est le centre de nombreux rites. Le plus voyant et communément pratiqué est l'offrande d'un peu de chaque boisson avant de boire.

L'intronisation des prêtres de la religion aymara, les {yatiris}, se fait en cachette. Dans le bourg de {{Guaqui}}, sur les rives du lac, les candidats vont à la messe pour la fête de Saint Jacques (Santiago). Mais derrière l'église a lieu l'intronisation des {yatiris}, en se cachant du prêtre qui officie.
Cette résistance existe aussi dans les rites catholiques pratiqués par les Aymaras. L'enfant sans baptême appartient au monde des ancêtres. S'il meurt sans le baptême, il se convertit en {limpu} et le châtiment sera une forte grêle. C'est pourquoi l'Aymara de la campagne baptisera pour éviter la grêle qui viendrait détruire les cultures. Le sens du baptême a été réinterprété dans le cadre de la cosmovision et des croyances aymaras.
Le succès des fêtes patronales doit se comprendre dans le cadre des protecteurs de la religion aymara. Les divers saints seront les protecteurs de la communauté et contribueront à une bonne récolte. L'Aymara attribue aux saints des qualités humaines : ils seront jaloux, vaniteux, cruels, vengeurs... Les vierges, que ce soit Marie ou non, ont une place importante dans le panthéon des protecteurs.
Il est frappant de voir que le Christ n'est l'objet d'aucun culte particulier. Les seules statues vénérées sont celle de la Passion. Pâques et Noël sont des fêtes tout à fait secondaires dans le calendrier religieux aymara. Plus encore ils ne connaissent pas Jésus, ils ne savent pas qui il est. Et la résurrection prend le sens du condamné, de l'âme du mort qui ne peut rejoindre le monde des ancêtres.
Indéniablement {« la religion aymara ne va pas se perdre... Notre religion est inséparable de notre culture ».} Elle est le symbole de la résistance du peuple aymara.
