Le dictionnaire donne du mot {{Macédoine}} la définition suivante : {« mets composé de toute sortes de fruits ou de légumes coupés en morceaux »} et au figuré : {« Amas de choses disparates ».}
_ C’est tout à fait ce qu’était la région appelée Macédoine et qui sous le régime Ottoman comprenait le {{Sud de la Yougoslavie}} actuelle , une partie de la {{Bulgarie}} et une zone indéfinie du côté de la {{Grèce}} et de {{l’Albanie}} . On trouvait là un ramassis de toutes les races :

Une nuit donc de 1927, nous sommes subitement réveillés par un bruit assourdissant de mitrailleuses et de canons. Que se passe-t-il ? Personne n’ose sortir de chez lui. La fusillade dura tout le reste de la nuit. Cela semblait venir d’un quartier de la ville.
_ Au petit matin, tout s’apaisa et l’on put aller aux nouvelles. On nous dit que la veille , à la tombée de la nuit, une forte bande de {comitatjis} Albanais avait pénétré en ville, occupé tout un quartier et massacrait tout ce qui résistait.

Devant le nombre et un armement puissant , les {{Albanais}} durent abandonner la place et se retirèrent en bon ordre dans les montagnes sans que les Serbes aient osé les poursuivre.
