Les voies de Dieu sont insondables !
Quand je jette un regard en arrière, je suis confondu par la miséricorde du Seigneur à mon égard, et surpris de me trouver encore sur terre, alors que tant de mes compagnons ont déjà quitté ce monde.
Ce qui va suivre est un peu l'histoire d'une pauvre âme que le Seigneur a comblé de ses faveurs, mais qui, bien des fois, l'a oublié pour prendre sa petite liberté.
Je suis né le {{12 juin 1913}} à Bilhec, dans l'un des villages de la commune de POLIGNAC, 7ème personnage de la lignée des BONNET. Avant moi, étaient venus au monde 4 garçons, dont l'un mort à la naissance, et deux filles. Plus tard, deux garçons naîtront encore pour compléter le lot.

Mon père s'était marié relativement âgé - il avait trente ans et mère dix-huit ans. Ils vécurent plus de soixante ans de vie commune, dans une entente relativement sereine. Un jour, vers la fin de sa longue vie, papa, paysan, parlant peu, revoyant son existence, fit cette confidence qui en dit long : { {{"Ta mère est une sainte, ... sans elle je n'aurai jamais réussi ce que j'ai entrepris ! ... En effet, avec 6 enfants, vivant sur un petit lopin de terre, cultivé en jardin, produisant à force de sueurs, mes parents décidèrent de trouver ailleurs, une terre plus productrice et hospitalière. Ils achetèrent, en rente viagère, un domaine à ma marraine Mlle Caroline CHIRAT, du Vernay, à SOUZY-L'ARGENTIERE, dans le Rhône.

Au nouveau venu dans la région, on lui donna vite un surnom : l'Auvergnat. Celui-ci, travailleur consciencieux, acharné et débrouillard, fit rendre à sa terre le maximum tout en étant attentif à ses voisins. Devenu riche, certes, l'Auvergnat était toujours prêt à rendre service. La maison, pleine de gens, accueillait volontiers filles et garçons du voisinage. A cette époque, les veillées en famille se tenaient, en hiver, dans les étables : chauffage gratuit ...
Quand quelqu'un avait besoin d'une charrette, d'un cheval ou des boeufs, on lui disait simplement: { {{"Va chez l'Auvergnat, tu trouveras sûrement".}} } Notre père ne savait pas refuser un service : combien de fois n'ai-je pas entendu ma mère le lui reprocher un peu ...
En famille, la prière faite chaque soir par maman entourée de ses enfants à genoux. Très vieux, papa mettait toujours genou à terre et souvent c'était lui qui donnait le signal. Avant le repas, on récitait le Benedicite.
Le mois de mai était marqué par quelques Ave Maria devant la statue de la Vierge qui, avec le crucifix, trônait dans la salle à manger.
A l'Ascension, après avoir suivi les Rogations pour lesquelles on dressait un autel sur le chemin, le père allait placer dans ses champs les petites croix de bois bénies par le prêtre.
Pour la Fête-Dieu, la famille se faisait un honneur de dresser un reposoir monumental pour le repos de l'ostensoir et la Bénédiction. Tout le matériel était soigneusement rangé pour l'année suivante. Dieu seul sait à combien d'oeuvres maman était abonnée et versait régulièrement ses cotisations souvent majorées. Maman avait une grande dévotion à la Sainte Vierge, mais aussi à St Joseph, Ste Thérèse de l'Enfant-Jésus, et surtout au Sacré Coeur de Jésus. En bien des endroits de la maison était accrochée une image pieuse ou même une statue ..

Nul doute que Maman désirait pour ses enfants une donation au Seigneur. Avoir un prêtre a été certainement son secret désir : elle a réussi, puisqu'un de ses fils est prêtre et un autre Frère.
Les derniers de la famille ont eu la chance de pouvoir faire des études soit au pensionnat de Pannissières, soit au petit Séminaire de Montbrison, soit à Franois ou St-Genis-Laval.

Je suis persuadé que Maman, par sa piété, son esprit de charité, a obtenu de Dieu ma vocation. Voici un fait, ponctuant cet esprit fraternel : le vaste portail de notre ferme donnait sur la Nationale Lyon-Clermont, ce qui incitait les voyageurs en déplacement dans la région, à demander facilement un asile pour la nuit. Or, un jour, vers 8 ou 9 heures du soir, un vagabond se présente. Maman dit à mon père :{ "André, demande-lui d'aller chez les voisins ; c'est le huitième aujourd'hui !"} Mais, je crois que le huitième a été aussi accueilli tout de même. Chacun de ces clients trouvait vivres et couvert pour la nuit, à la condition de ne pas fumer: crainte du feu dans la ferme.
Vite, la maison vit passer des Frères Maristes, recruteurs ou d'autres rejoignant le poste de Haute-Rivoire. Après avoir gravi la côte, l'un ou l'autre était heureux de se rafraîchir ou de se sustenter avant de continuer la marche. Et c'est ainsi qu'un jour fut décidé mon envoi au juvénat de Franois.
