Le scolasticat se passa calmement, malgré une grosse fatigue en finale bourrée d'études, pour obtenir un diplôme d'enseignement. Nos professeurs faisaient ce qu'ils pouvaient pour obtenir de nous le maximum ; ils ne réussissaient pas toujours. Comble de l'ironie, le Maître de français m'attribuait, toujours de faibles notes, alors que tout le reste de ma vie, je fus condamné, à écrire pour les divers bulletins d'établissements, ou les circulaires aux parents Ce même professeur me prédisait un échec retentissant, tant à cause de mes difficultés en français qu'à cause de mon absence pour fatigue.

Contrairement aux augures, j'échouais, certes en juin ; mais avec des notes fort honorables (les meilleures parmi les échoués), me permettant une reprise en octobre, où tout se passa fort bien.
